Ienăchiță’s History of the Ottoman Emperors was written in Nicopolis and in Rhodes , between 1788-1794 . It starts with a presentation of Prophet Muhammad and the Quran, and it depicts the rise of the Ottoman state since 1300. After 1688, the story increases in accuracy. Starting with the reign of Mustafa III (1757-1774), and especially for the reigns of Abdülhamid I (1774-1789) and Selim III (1789-1808), the tone becomes autobiographical. The author relates many events he witnessed, such as the Russian-Ottoman military confrontations, the subsequent peace negotiations, and their impact on Wallachia.
