The Running Away from Home of the Sons of Alexandru Ipsilanti (English)
On 16 December 1781, the sons of the Wallachian Prince Alexandru Ipsilanti (1774-1782 & 1796-1797; Prince of Moldavia 1786-1788; † 1807), Constantin and Dimitrie, run away from home. Their destination was Vienna; according to Ienăchiță Văcărescu, the boys wanted to discover the impressive world their “(West-)European” teachers had described. The versified account of the adventure was composed soon after their departure and before their “recovery”.
