Description
List of the Wallachian princes, since 1290 – the alleged date of arrival from Transylvania of the coutry’s founder, Radu Negru (Radu “the Black”) – to Constantin Brâncoveanu. In several cases, the author provides explanatory notes, such as the ones concerning Neagoe Basarab († 1521) and Șerban Cantacuzino († 1688). These notes give him the opportunity to express his opinions on the noble families of Wallachia and Moldavia, or on the “Turkish tyranny”. N. Iorga attributed this list to the stolnic Constantin Cantacuzino; indeed, count Luigi Ferdinando Marsili († 1730) – the destinatary of the text –, knew Cantacuzino and counted him among his correspondents . Nevertheless, N.A. Ursu seems inclined to ascribe the short catalogue to logofăt Ioan Frâncul (alias Ion Romanul; alias Giovanni Candido Romano).
